YOUR FAKE SMILE JUST LIKE SAI…

YOUR LIPS THAT ALWAYS LIE…

THAT ALMOST KILLED ME, YOU LEFT ME JUST TO DIE…

WELL I’M WEAKER THAN YOU THINK…

STRONGER THAN YOU KNOW…

GOD IS WITH ME, YES I KNOW…

LOOK AT YOURSELF YOUR JUST A MASK…

MADE OF GLASS…

PRETENDING TO BE VAST…

GREAT?? HUGE?? FAMOUS?? SWEET??…

OR SHOULD I SAY ROTTEN MEAT…

Mmmm hmm, but how much do you love me?

Using fMRI, neuroscientists measured the neurochemical experience of love in a “love competition”.  The idea is love isn’t a black or white concept where you either love someone or you don’t…it’s about degrees or power. Here, they put several people in an fMRI machine, told them to think about the object of their affection to see who displayed the most activity in the regions associated with love and made a little documentary about it. You can watch a preview here.

Whispery to the giddy 23 yr old: the mild head throbbing may not be love..it’s a common side effect of being in a heavily magnetized, 3-6 Tesla machine & that’s a lot …(a 1 Telsa magnet can pick up a car, FYI).

So we know that “love can elicit not only the same euphoric feeling as using cocaine, but also affects intellectual areas of the brain”.[via]

Although all fMRI studies of love point to the subcortical dopaminergic reward-related brain systems (involving dopamine and oxytocin receptors) for motivating individuals in pair-bonding, the present meta-analysis newly demonstrated that different types of love involve distinct cerebral networks, including those for higher cognitive functions such as social cognition and bodily self-representation. [via]

I wonder how they are able to compare different types of love related emotions (new/passionate vs older/secure), as well as the love they they feel when thinking of the other vs the love they have for other…or as the older lady suggested, the appreciation and love she feels for herself……cited by W. Houston (1985) replicating G. Benson (1977) as the greatest love of all.

FEBRUARY BLOOMER

It’s been raining and it hasn’t.

Rows of grasses

glow green,

glow with health so they look unnatural.

The glowing grass gives me a fright,

the only way to say

a long i of f up my spine.

I lock my bike, but

if someone really wants it

they can get it. Going inside,

two Camellia blooms,

gaudy and forlorn as Mme. Butterfly,

snag my eyes.

Camellia is a February bloomer,

the earliest bloomer, I hear myself

saying for the rest of my life.

2:53 am

still not sleeping
restless mind has
many miles to count
step by step
mind the paces
besides sleep is
overrated, smoke
and mirrors to occupy
a broken mind trying
to rebuild, weary from
the days labor
it’ll take more than
a few words to send
me tumbling headfirst
into projections
from neuron reels
anymore these dreams
are merely a poor
imitation of afternoon
walks down sidewalks
littered with bike
racks and trendy
little book stores
with clever names

a distraction
from trails that
once led to gold

HOSPITAL WALLS

tuesday, february 7th, 2012—

i am many things. a doctor. an artist. a nest of mirrors.

i mix colors until they blend. i blur, i gray, i smudge. i thin, i thicken, i change mediums. but i will never destroy the canvas.

i administer immunizations, prescribe medicines, perform operations. i’ll amputate, castrate, numb, anesthetize, excise. i’ll incise, too, and i’ll draw the poisons from your blood while they run through my veins. i’ll lay you in the hospital bed of my heart, i’ll burn the plague from your body with my breath. i’ll feed you love and passion and compassion learned from pain until you’re well enough to walk on your own, and even then i’ll be beside you, my hand in yours. i’ll sing you to sleep with the heart monitor, i’ll cast and i’ll bandage your bruises, the tears in your skin and in your eyes. i’ll calm the fever in your brain, i’ll salve the sickness in your soul, i’ll soothe the turgid ocean of your heart. i’ll keep the IV in your arm a kissing sedative until you’re well enough to wake up. i won’t let you go, not with your heart still beating. not while i know you’re alive. i will never kill.

i’m a good doctor, but an even better nurse. i won’t leave your side, no matter how sick you feel. time is meaningless without you and forgotten with you.

stay in this world
for in any other, i do not exist.
live here with me
i will hold you and let you feel.

but most of all,
one day, i’ll heal the scars they left behind.

and through that,
i will heal too.

and one day there will be no more ashes in your black hair.
and i will still kiss it.
and one day you will lay your weary head by mine.
and i will still kiss it.

just call to me, wherever you are
and i will follow your voice, if you want.

i’ll use my hands to craft something beautiful
behind the forest
and save snails and slugs from mossy impact

even through depression, i’ve learned that sadness is temporary.
and that there is happiness to be had in healing others.
we often see what is wrong, rather than what is right.
and the dormant heat of passion still warms even smoldering.

i am possessed by an ineffable joy at these recent realizations.

Two doctors Billy Cohn and Bud Frazier from the Texas Heart Institute successfully replaced a dying man’s heart with a device — proving that it is possible for your body to be kept alive without a heart, or a pulse.
